Ayub Otieno's Bio               Birthdate: 12 May, 2004 (estimated)

Ayub was committed to Nairobi Children's Home by the Children's Court as a child in need of care and protection. The letter from Buru Buru Police Station states that the child was taken to the station by neighbors of where they lived with the uncle. The uncle had assulted him badly and it was reported by neighbors that he always battered the said child. The uncle escaped after the neighbors intervened in the situation and he is at large. So far, no known relatives have come forth to claim him (Ayub) and efforts by our office to trace any significant others have not been successful.

May 2011: Phil Says "When we visited Ayub for for the first time at the children's home and again when we picked him up, he would not smile, not even a little. What was going through his mind? Was it suspicion? Sadness? Dread of going through another upheaval in his life? A rehearsal of untold nightmarish memories? All of the above? Before we left with Ayub and five other boys, the one person the children's officer thanked us for taking was Ayub, not because he was a problem child, but because he needed a home so badly. Ayub is the oldest of the new children and the third oldest of the twelve boys we currently have at Haven.

When Ayub arrived at Haven we noticed that he had a deep, large grotesque scar on the top each of his shoulders. Ayub said that was where his uncle had bitten him. He also told the story that his uncle had beaten him with a bed post. The English word for Ayub is Job. He is such a young boy to have lived through Job type experiences. After Ayub told his story, mom Elizabeth assured him that he is safe at Haven and would not be hurt here. Immediately Ayub's countenance changed - the smile that had been so noticably missing began to appear. Within 24 hours, Ayub was the smilingest boy at Haven! Praise God for his mercy!!!! I look forward to seeing the plans that God has for Ayub's life."
